Multiple Speeding Convictions
Three speeding convictions within 18 months will result in the suspension of your license. This suspension is mandatory. Can you risk having your license suspended?
Fines And Surcharges
Convictions will result in fines and surcharges. The amount of the fine will depend in large part upon the severity of the offense. For example, the maximum fine for a speed of up to 10mph over the limit is $150. The maximum fine for a speed greater than 31mph over the limit is $600.
Driver Responsibility Assessment Fee
The New York DMV imposes a Driver Responsibility Assessment fee for drivers who accumulate six or more points on their license in an 18-month period. This fee must be paid for three straight years. The amount of the assessment is $100 for six points and increases $25.00 per year for each point over six points.
Failure to pay the assessment will result in the suspension of your license. The Driver Responsibility Assessment fee is in addition to any fine and surcharge imposed by the court.
